One person is dead and a suspect is in custody after a News Year's Day shooting in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting in the Cagel Branch Community, Thursday.
Deputies arrived and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man then died while being taken to the hospital. The victim has been identified as Desmond Cruell of Sylva.
The suspect, Kristopher Alexander Tutt was arrested and is charged with murder. He's being held without bond in Jackson County.
