A suspect is dead after a shootout with police in Western North Carolina. The Asheville Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the parking lot of a business on North French Broad Avenue, just before 2AM Wednesday.
Officers arrived and found a suspect who was still shooting and returned fire, striking the suspect who was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been called in and will conduct the investigation, which is standard protocol for officer involved shootings statewide.
The name of the suspect has not been released, as of the time of this report.
