Two former lawmen are facing charges after being arrested, in the Upstate. Arrest records in Anderson County show that former Belton Police Chief James Ross Richey and Anderson City Police Officer Brantley Keith Creel were both booked into jail there, Tuesday.
Both men face charges of misconduct in office. Creel is also charged with 1st degree assault and Richey is charged with two counts of 3rd degree assault. The details surrounding this arrest have not been released, as of this time.
However, Richey had been investigated by SLED since last year. That came after he was accused of using excessive force during an incident in 2020. Richey was a Belton Police Officer at the time, before becoming Police Chief there. He then left there to work for the Anderson Police Department and reportedly resigned amid the SLED investigation.
Creel was arrested on allegations of using excessive force after multiple alleged incidents in 2023. Official say he was fired from the Anderson Police Department, weeks after the incidents.
