Two Greer police officers have been fired for improperly using the department's license plate recognition technology. The city says, Corporal Kareem Lynch and Officer Sebastian Echeverry were terminated June 29th, after an investigation into alleged misuse of the system.
Officials say the department used Flock Safety's AI Audit Assistance tool, which confirmed the allegations. The department says, its license plate recognition technology is intended only for public safety missions.
The terminations have been reported to the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, which will decide the officers' certification status.
FITS News is reporting, that Lynch was allegedly using the technology to track a female subordinate.
