A highly anticipated retrial for a jeweler from Summerville who is accused of killing his wife a decade ago, got underway Monday. Michael Colluci was charged with murder after his wife Sara Lynn Colluci was found dead outside a family owned warehouse in 2015.
Colluci went to trial in 2018, before the judge declared a mistrial after the jury couldn't reach a verdict. The Savage Law Firm who represented Colluci in the 1st trial says they polled the jury and said all of them agreed he was not guilty on the murder charge.
The split came on the voluntary manslaughter charge with just two jurors voting guilty. In the 1st trial Colluci's attorneys maintained that his wife committed suicide. The prosecution tried poking holes in that theory saying it didn't make sense.
Now 10 years after the death, the defense plans to question how the investigation was handled. They also claim that evidence was left out of the 1st trial that would help Colluci's claim.
