Murder warrant rescinded against notorious Upstate crime figure

Maler
Kevin "Boston" Maler
Oconee County Sheriff's Office

The murder charge against one of the most infamous crime figures in the Upstate, does not look like it will stick. In September of last year, Kevin Maler also known as "Boston" was charged with murder in connection to the 2019 death of Kevin Craig at a home in Oconee County.

Maler was already incarcerated serving five years in the state prison system on a drug conviction. The case of Craig's death was re-examined after it was featured on a national podcast. The podcast was based around Maler's alleged involvement in the disappearance of two women.

The most recent being the case of Faith Roach who went missing from Oconee County in 2019. Maler has not been charged in either of those disappearance cases.

An episode of the podcast asserted that Craig had knowledge of Roach's disappearance and that may have motivated Maler to kill him.

Now, the Oconee County Sheriff's Office has rescinded the murder warrant against Maler. Prosecutors say there isn't enough evidence for a murder conviction.
