Just-released findings on the collision that claimed three lives in Spartanburg County last week blames the accident on one of the drivers for speeding. The crash killed 30 year old Welford Academy teaching assistant Megan Jackson Barnett, her six year old daughter, Briley, and the driver of the other car, 43-year-old Jackolane Mattison, a medical records technician from Lyman.

All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on April 19th on Highway 29 near Tucapau Road in Wellford. Spartanburg District 5 school officials had issued a statement expressing condolences to the teacher's family and offering counseling to her students.

The family of Jackolane Mattison, who worked at Spartanburg Regonal Medical Center, had also made a plea for the public to reserve judgement until accident investigators reached a conclusion, on how the wreck happened?

Although mechanical data from both vehicles is still being examined, Wellford Police David Green says the car driven by Mattison was speeding, showed no evidence that brakes were applied, and that it caused the accident.
