A beloved business owner and local elected official in Oconee County who died last year is set to be honored by the community he served. At Tuesday night's City Council meeting a decision was made to name the ball fields on Simpson Street in Westminster after Yousef Mefleh.
He died at the age of 67, last August in his Oconee County home. Mefleh's restaurant Yousef's Kitchen opened in 1985 and then became an institution in the Westminster business community. He began serving on the Westminster City Council in 2014.
The naming ceremony for the fields is set for May 17th, which coincides with Yousef's birthday.
