A suspect and an officer were hospitalized after a shooting in the parking lot of a Western North Carolina retail store.
The Weaverville Police Department says an officer was at the Walmart just before 930PM, Monday night. The officer saw the suspect being followed by Walmart Security.
Police say when the officer tried to detain the man, he sprayed the officer with mace and assaulted him. The officer then fired his weapon and hit the man.
Both men were injured in the incident and were taken to the hospital to be treated for what were said to be non-life threatening injuries. The North Carolina Bureau Of Investigation has been called in. The officer is on administrative leave pending the outcome of their investigation.
The identity of the suspect has not been released, as of the time of this report.
