Forest damage from Western North Carolina

Over a week after it started, a wildfire is still burning in Western North Carolina, however officials say that significant progress is being made in fighting the fire.

Officials say the Poplar Drive Fire is now 75% contained. The blaze has damaged well over 400 acres and fire crews have been working around the clock to keep the blaze at bay.

North Carolina Forest Service Incident Commander Kevin Harvell says the fire has destroyed one house, two cabins and three out-buildings. A few fire fighters have sustained minor injuries but have recovered quickly and no serious injuries have been reported.

18 different agencies from around Henderson County and 48 various agencies statewide have come together to fight the blaze. A burn ban is still in effect for the area, as the fire is mostly under control.
