One person is dead after a weekend plane crash in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Officials say, the crash happened around 10:45 Saturday morning near Andrews North Carolina, about 35 miles west of Franklin.
The single engine aircraft reportedly collided with a tree and caught fire. The pilot was said to be the plane's only occupant, he was ejected upon impact and pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the pilot has not yet been released. The crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
