For the ninth straight year BMW led the nation in auto exports by value, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. In 2022, The South Carolina plant exported over 227,000 Sports Activity Vehicles and Coupes worth a total of 9.6 billion dollars.
BMW vehicles produced at Plant Spartanburg were exported through the port of Charleston and five other ports in the Southeastern United States. Over 416,000 Sports Activity Vehicles and Coupes were produced at Plant Spartanburg in 2022.
Plant Spartanburg's X models made up over 60% of all BMW's sold in the U.S. , last year. Plug-in hybrid vehicles totaled more than 16% of production, with that number expected to grow, as Plant Spartanburg expands with more emphasis on EV production in the future.
BMW will start production for the 2024 X5 and X6 models this April.
