Voters in November could see a penny sales tax on the ballot.
In early December last year, Greenville County Council adopted a resolution initiating a countywide inventory and assessment of all non-interstate roads and bridges maintained by the County.
According to officials, more than half the roadways need fixing and do not meet DOT standards. The solution? Greenville County is considering a penny sales tax.
The tax would not be added to groceries, pharmaceuticals, or gasoline, but for cents on the dollar, over $125 million could be garnered annually to be put towards the roads according to City Leaders.
Council has until August 15, 2024 to determine whether or not the penny sales tax should be on the November ballot. To view road assessments and submit project input, CLICK HERE.
