Rain has come and has helped as crews continue to battle the wildfires around the Upstate. The Table Rock Fire has now burned more than 11,000 acres.
Holly Welch from the South Carolina Forestry Commission joined the Tara Show, Monday morning. She says while the rain has provided some relief, there's still work to be done.
"The weather is knocking down the fire intensity. With that, firefighters are trying to get the fire line closer to the fire."
Welch says the debris left in the wake of Hurricane Helene is unfortunately adding "fuel to the fire" so to speak.
"The rain will knock it down but it won't put it out. There's large material out there from Hurricane Helene so there will be some smoking and smoldering for a while. But hopefully, we will have a good line around the fire thanks to the rain and the hard work from firefighters out there on the line".
The Table Rock Fire has become the most devastating wildfire in state history.
