The Hart County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple false emergency calls involving a home on Lavonia Highway, over the weekend. Sheriff Chris Carroll says deputies responded Friday night to a report of two murders, then again early Saturday morning after reports of a pipe bomb. All the reports were determined to be false.
Investigators believe the incident may involve “swatting,” when someone makes false emergency reports to send law enforcement to another person’s home. The incident reportedly began after a juvenile playing an online video game was threatened by another player.
The sheriff’s office is urging parents to talk with their children about online gaming and protecting their personal information. The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are possible.
