Recently, a panel of independent advisers to the Food and Drug Administration is recommending that the agency issue an emergency use authorization for the Pfizer vaccine in children ages 5 to 11 years old. The vote was 17 in favor with one abstaining. Research and data have shown that the mortality rate for covid among kids is very low. There's also concerns that have been brought up about possible side effects and/or long term effects the vaccine may have. With the low mortality rate for kids who contract covid and the possible after effects of the vaccine, it begs the question of if the vaccine should be available to kids under 12?
