Simpsonville is expecting to see a new municipal complex, hopefully by the end of the year.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for a new municipal complex in Simpsonville.

“It’s going to be a really nice summary court for everybody who needs services at the magistrate court level, which is a county function to provide that,” said 27th District County Councilman Butch Kirven. “And also, all the city services will be right here at a new city park, fire station, police station and the city court as well.”

Kirven said the project has been years in the making and that they are hopeful construction on the new complex will be completed by the end of the year.

Simpsonville Mayor Paul Shewmaker spoke at the ceremony as well, where he said he hopes the new complex will be a hallmark for years to come.

“These buildings will be ones that future generations will preserve,” said Sipmsonville Mayor Paul Shewmaker. “These buildings will be the ones that cause our descendants to look back 100 years from now or 200 years from now and wonder what it was like in the times that created this. I believe they will be considered iconic.”
