UPDATE: 10:40am, 5/26/2026- Charlotte Highway will remain closed. The NCDOT is on the scene and have began digging down to the culvert that failed causing the road to undermine in the heavy rain. The NCDOT anticipates this to be an extended repair and they do not anticipate completion until very late tonight or early tomorrow morning (Wednesday, 5/27/26). Currently the only route that is open to vehicle traffic is US 64 in Henderson County.If you must travel from Fairview to Gerton, you will need to go to Hendersonville and get on US 64 and travel to Bat Cave and access Gerton Highway from there. If you need to travel to or through Fairview from Gerton you will need to go to US 64 in Bat Cave and go to Hendersonville and back around. Currently NC9 in Bat Cave is also closed.

North Carolina Department of Transportation crews are addressing several damage sites created by heavy rains last (Monday) night near the Buncombe/Henderson County line along U.S. 74A. The highway is shut down between Sugar Hollow Road and the Buncombe/Henderson County line according to a press release.
Crews are working to safely replace a 48-inch culvert that collapsed. Detours are posted.
NCDOT officials anticipate opening the road Tuesday, if the weather allows. On the Henderson County side of U.S. 74, Bearwallow Road, Kelly Hill Road, Konatoga Circle and a gravel section of Middle Fork Road — are closed due to debris and minor damage.
Officials said crews will continue working until all repairs are complete.
