A SLED investigation is ongoing after an officer involved shooting in the Midlands, earlier this week.

On Wednesday, The Lexington County Sheriff's Department was notified that two people reportedly tried to use counterfeit money at multiple liquor stores in the area.

They then notified all the surrounding agencies. The Batesburg-Leesville Police Department then located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. Police say, a traffic stop was conducted and the driver hit the officer with the vehicle while trying to flee.

An officer then fired shots which hit the vehicle and both people in it. Both suspects were injured and were taken to a hospital to be treated. The suspects have not been publicly identified as of this time.

SLED says this is the 2nd shooting of its kind involving the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department this year. It also marks the 44th officer involved shooting across the state in 2025.
