SLED will investigate claims that jurors who found Alex Murdaugh guilty of murdering his wife and son were pushed toward a quick verdict by a clerk of court, who was writing a book abut the trial.
A joint statement by Attorney General Alan Wilson and the State Law Enforcement Division promises a probe of jury tampering accusations against Colleton Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill will go wherever it leads, saying "the State's only vested interest is seeking the truth."
Murdaugh's defense team's motion for a new trial, which also requests a federal investigation, says four jurors contacted them saying Hill, AKA "Miss Becky", constantly warned them not be misled by the defense evidence and especially Murdaugh's own testimony.
Using such pressure tactics as telling smokers they couldn't take breaks during deliberations. In her book, "Behind the Doors of Justice," Hill states she was concerned that the jury might not convict Murdaugh when , she wrote, "I knew in my heart he was guilty."
