Allegations have surfaced of impropriety in a State Senate race. The Post and Courier reports that officials have been asked to investigate candidate Ben Carper.

That comes after his primary opponent, Jason Elliott, hired a private investigator that claims Carper lives outside the district he is running in. The newspaper says, they obtained documents that allege Carper illegally changed his address on his drivers license and registered to vote using a rental property he owns in District 6 while actually living in District 7.

Besides political implications, Elliott's Attorney has asked the 13th Circuit Solicitor's Office and SLED to investigate whether Carper committed the crime of voter fraud. In an interview with The Post and Courier, Carper denied doing anything illegal and says he's owned the property in District 6 for years with multiple cars that are registered at the address.

Carper said "The State of South Carolina determines residency by what is on your driver's license". Elliott and Carper are slated to meet in a runoff on June 25th.
