A fourteen year-old Woodmont High School student has been arrested after School Resource Officers discovered a replica firearm in the student’s backpack. The school was placed on lockdown Thursday as a precautionary measure.
School Resource Officers received reports from students and staff Thursday afternoon, that the 14 year-old possibly had a gun and had made threats towards another student. Subsequently, the school was placed on lockdown and deputies identified and located the student. During the course of the investigation School Resource Officers located a replica firearm that was actually an airsoft gun in the student’s backpack which was in his possession. The student was taken into custody without incident and no students or staff were injured.
Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis said “Another example of the effectiveness of our community working together with law enforcement. We preach all the time, if you see something, say something and in this case information was reported to our wonderful School Resource Officers who acted swiftly and were able to thankfully resolve what could have been an extremely dangerous situation. Kudos to these students and the staff at Woodmont High School.”
