The suspect charged with shooting and critically injuring an Upstate deputy made his 1st appearance in court.

50 year old Gregory Wayne Maxwell appeared in front of a judge in Oconee County for the 1st time since he was arrested last month for shooting and wounding Corporal Lucas Watts.

Maxwell is charged with 6 total counts of attempted murder stemming from a shootout with deputies on November 16th.

The judge has temporarily denied bond on the charge of shooting and nearly killing Corporal Watts and says bind on that charge would have to be set by a circuit court judge.
A bond of 1 million each has been set for Maxwell on the other five attempted murder charges.

He is also charged with a weapons violation, failure to stop for blue lights and multiple traffic violations.
