Suspect in deadly Upstate school shooting sentenced as adult

Tanglewood Middle School

Greenville County Schools

The underaged suspect in a fatal Upstate school shooting is expected to spend 3 decades in prison. Jordan Williams Jr. pleaded guilty to murder in court, Wednesday. The charge came after Williams shot and killed 12 year old classmate Jamari Jackson at Tanglewood Middle School in Greenville in 2022.

Williams was 12 year old at the time of the shooting. However in 2024, the decision was made to try him as an adult after the judge ruled the case met the criteria to be transferred to adult court.

Court records show that the shooting was premediated and Williams had threatened to shoot Jackson several times prior to the incident. He even wrote letters and song lyrics about the shooting.

Williams agreed to a plea deal and has since been sentenced to 30 years in prison. He was given credit for time served since his arrest in 2022.
