An investigation is ongoing after a scammer impersonated a police officer to rip-off an Upstate business. The Spartanburg Police Department responded Sunday, to the Spill The Beans Coffee Shop on East Main Street.
The owner reported that one of the employees got a call from a man impersonating a police officer. The caller told the employee he was working a counterfeiting case and they should remove all the cash from the store.
The man then told the employee to put the cash on a prepaid card. Police say the employee sent over $2,500 to the man impersonating an officer.
Police say, the suspect also asked the employee to send him money to a Venmo account that was linked to a person named Lawrence Minnifield. The store owner did not press charges against the employee.
