Leaders in one Upstate county has approved putting a tax increase for one of its districts on the November ballot. The Cherokee County Council has unanimously decided to let voters in the Antioch Fire District vote on raising taxes to fund the community's Volunteer Fire Department.
Officials say, significant population growth in recent years has led to increased needs and an uptick in operational expenses. If it passes the property tax raise would go from 8 mills to 20 for those in the Antioch Fire District.
It is said to be the 1st tax increase in the district's history.
