Tax increase proposed to fund police at North GA school after shooting there

AHS
Apalachee High School - Winder, Georgia

Trustees in the Georgia district where four people were killed in the Appalachee High School shooting are considering a property tax increase to keep cops on the campus:

School Superintendent Dallas LeDuff informed trustees Tuesday night the county will no longer pay the cost of posting sheriff's deputies as school resource officers in the district covering all of Winder, Georgia.

Since the September shootings, two deputies have been posted at high schools and at least one in every other school in the district. Picking up the tab for that will cost the district more than a million dollars.

The proposed property tax hike would amount to about twenty dollars on a hundred-thousand dollar house.

Calling the expenditure "non-negotiable," LeDuff told the school board members, "Perhaps we could ask the county who qualifies under their definition of public safety."
