An Upstate teacher has been terminated after she handed out controversial material to her students. Officials from Spartanburg School District 6 say an English Teacher at Dorman High distributed inappropriate content to her class.

District Spokesman Cynthia Robinson said in an email response to News/Talk 98.9 WORD's Tara Servatius that the teacher was placed on administrative leave Friday after handing out the material and has since been fired.

The content was deemed inappropriate by the district's curriculum standards and centered around a subset of homosexual men known as "bears". The handout reportedly gave students information on where they could go online to join this adult group.

The class was a group of Sophomores meaning most of them are minors under the age of 18. The name of the teacher has not been released.
