A teenage suspect has been detained after a hoax call about an active shooter at Belton-Honea Path High School. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office responded to the school Wednesday and quickly determined there was not a credible threat.
Deputies evacuated the school to ensure the safety of students and staff. Detectives then traced the phone number used in the fake call which led them to a student at the school.
The student has not been publicly identified gave to being a minor. He's being transferred to the DJJ facility in Columbia.
