The Highway Patrol reports three people died in a collision on Highway 221 in Spartanburg County just after 5:30 Thursday afternoon.
Corporal Joe Hovis said a 2001 Ford Mustang on Chesnee Highway, about 3 miles south of Chesnee, spun out of control and crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic and was struck in the rear by a 2010 Ford SUV driving in the opposite direction. Two of the three passengers in the Mustang died at the scene, the third passenger died at a hospital.
Both drivers were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for their injuries. The Spartanburg County Coroner has identified the victims as 62-year-old William Mark Fowler III, 20-year-old Austin Mark Fowler and 16-year-old Farrior Earle Fowler. All three were from Chesnee.
That crash remains under investigation by Highway Patrol’s MAIT unit.
