The trial continues for a man accused of killing an Upstate deputy, nearly two years ago. Day two of the Ray Kelly trial commenced Tuesday at the Greenville County Courthouse. Kelly is standing trial for the murder of Greenville County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Conley Jumper in October of 2020.
On Tuesday, Kelly's defense attorney made a motion for a mistrial in the case, that motion was denied. The defense then asked for a continuance to prepare for trial, that motion also was denied. Kelly had initially declined counsel and wanted to represent himself, but since has opted for a public defender.
The deputy who initiated the traffic stop on Kelly, became emotional while testifying in court on Tuesday. Sergeant Jumper was killed during the course of that traffic stop.
