Two charged after carjacking in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 24, 2021) Earlier this week, officers from the Spartanburg Police Department responded to Lowe’s located at 120 Blackstock Road in reference to a carjacking incident.

On March 23, 2021, around 6:51 p.m. officers responded to a carjacking at Lowe’s on Blackstock Road. The first victim stated a male and a female attempted to carjack him while he was sitting in his vehicle. The victim stated one of suspects tapped on his window while brandishing a firearm. The victim was able to drive away ending the encounter with the suspects.


The couple immediately approached another person in the parking lot, who was also sitting in his vehicle. They presented the same weapon and they were able to remove the victim from his vehicle.

The victim was injured, transported to the hospital and released. The victim’s injuries were not serious.

A BOLO was radioed to agencies in the area and the suspects were located in Blacksburg, South Carolina. They were taken into custody without incident. The suspects are currently in the Cherokee County Detention Center.

The Spartanburg Police Department is investigating this incident alongside agencies in Cherokee County. Warrants have been signed on both suspects. Travis Lee Smith, 39, has been charged with Carjacking (two counts), and Possession of weapon during a violent crime (two counts). Smith is currently in the Cherokee County Detention Center. His charges will be processed once he is released from Cherokee County. Warrants have also been signed on 31-year-old Elizabeth Dawn Green. She is charged with accessory after the fact of a felony (two counts). Currently Green is not in custody.
