Oconee County has taken the first step in banning the controversial Flock camera systems. The first reading Tuesday of the ordinance named “Protection from Mass Surveillance,” passed with only one council member in opposition.
The ordinance, which still needs further readings, would prohibit the use of county funds to purchase Flock cameras or similar technology and would keep them off of county roads or property.
Oconee County Council Chairman Matt Durham has been at the forefront of banning flock cameras. Durham has been publicly outspoken against mass surveillance.
