An Upstate man is in custody after being charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend's father. As we previously reported, the Greenwood Coroner's Office responded to a home on Maness Drive near Hodges, Sunday night. The victim 63 year old, James Mitchel Steele was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead just before 10:45 PM.
The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office says the suspect 32 year old Kurtis Brooks Lawrence has been taken into custody. Investigators say Lawrence is the boyfriend of Steele's daughter. He's charged with murder and a weapons violation.
