Two suspects are in custody after an Upstate man was burned to death inside his car, earlier this week. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Sharon Road on Tuesday and found a car that had been set on fire and human remains inside the vehicle.
The remains were identified as Leroy Palmer Jr. and the vehicle found was his as well. Palmer had been reported missing two days prior by his mother. His two roommates told investigators that he had left the house around 12 AM Friday to meet someone and never returned.
There was a trail camera near where Palmer's car was found and investigators reviewed the footage. They saw Palmer pull his car through and a gate and the video showed a man approaching the car with a gas can.
The investigation also uncovered security cam footage from nearby businesses. Based on the video footage, psychical evidence and witness statements two suspects were identified as Odell Shaquille Ferguson IV and Jimmy Lee Salters.
Both men are charged with arson and a weapons violation. Charges are expected to be upgraded, as the investigation continues.
