An Upstate man is set to spend the next quarter century behind bars after a domestic violence incident led to a fatal shooting. 21 year old, Dylan Painter of Spartanburg entered guilty pleas in court Tuesday to charges of voluntary manslaughter, 2nd degree domestic violence and a weapons violation.
Court records say, Painter fatally shot his best friend Mason Davis, in June of 2021. Painter had reportedly hit his girlfriend and mother of his child, Raegan at their home in Inman that morning.
Settle left the home with their child and called Davis to come over and talk to Painter to calm him down. Investigators say, Painter shot Davis three times after the two got into an argument. Painter originally claimed self defense, that claim was determined to not be credible.
Painter was sentenced to 25 years for the manslaughter charge, he was also given a total of 8 years on the other charges. Those sentences are set to run concurrently.
