An Upstate man has been sentenced to more than two decades after a multi-county crime spree. The 8th Circuit Solicitors Office says, 26 year old Alonzo Craig Hawes Jr. of Greenwood pleaded guilty earlier today, to 21 counts of grand larceny and one count of petit larceny.
In April of last year. Hawes became a suspect in a string of golf cart thefts in Greenwood and Abbeville Counties. Months later, he was caught in the act of stealing a golf cart and transporting it to an Abbeville County stash house.
Investigators used cell phone data to connect Hawes to numerous other thefts. They also made contact with people from out of state who confirmed they purchased golf carts from Hawes. A Circuit Judge sentenced Hawes to 21 years in the state prison system.
