Upstate man sentenced to prison for charges from Jan. 6th

An Upstate man convicted on charges stemming from the January 6th Capitol insurrection has been sentenced to prison.

As we previously reported, Derek Cooper Gunby of Anderson was found guilty on charges of entering a restricted building, disorderly conduct in a restricted building and picketing in a Capitol building.


All of those are misdemeanor charges, Gunby was originally charged with felony obstruction of an official proceeding, that charge has been dismissed.

Gunby was seen in photos that surfaced online from the Capitol on January 6th. Gunby also posted on social media about going from Anderson to Washington, DC to "stop the steal".

Gunby has been sentenced to 60 days in prison.
