An Upstate police officer is facing charges after allegedly pointing a gun at a vehicle with children inside it. The Wellford Police Department responded to a report of a road rage incident on I-85 near Mile Marker 67.
Police then located the two vehicles involved in a parking lot off of Highway 29. Police say, 33 year old Paige Newell an officer with the Anderson Police Department pulled a gun and aimed it at a vehicle with three people inside, including two children.
Newell was off duty at the time and she also allegedly backed into the victim's vehicle. Police say Newell told them she backed into the vehicle because she was blocked in. She also denied pulling the gun on the victim.
The gun was evidently Newell's service weapon, as it was returned to the Anderson Police Department. Newell is charged with pointing and presenting a gun, she has been placed on administrative leave.
