An Oconee County restaurant has re-opened after closing for almost a month after being raided by Homeland Security. Puerto Nuevo Mexican Restaurant in West Union, is now back in operation.
Last month, the restaurant was the subject of a Homeland Security investigation. Agents say two children who were human trafficking victims were rescued. 8 people were arrested on immigration charges and two others were arrested at the scene, including the restaurant's manager.
However, no charges in connection to human trafficking were filed. The ACLU and Community groups have criticized the raid.
Dulce Lopez an Immigrant Rights Advocate for the ACLU said " The operation at the Puerto Nuevo not only targeted a restaurant. It targeted the whole Hispanic community. A community that lives, works, and raises their children in a town that in which they no longer feel safe".
