An Upstate school district is responding after the release of a controversial and racially charged social media video reportedly linked to the daughter of a board member. The Pickens County School District responded to a video that went viral that reportedly shows the daughter of Trustee Shannon Haskett using a racial slur.
The video has caused consternation and has garnered over a million views since being posted, earlier this week. Democratic political hopeful Derrick Quarles reposted the video and the captions claim that one of the girls in the video is the daughter of Board Member Shannon Haskett. Another girl seen in the video using the racial slur is said to be a student at Coastal Carolina.
The School District has issued a response saying " We are aware of the video circulating on social media. While the incident occurred off campus and outside school hours, it does involve a current student. While we are limited in the details we can share regarding any specific actions taken, we reaffirm our commitment to our core values of respect and excellence, which should guide behavior inside and outside the classroom".
