An Upstate Sheriff has refuted claims that a stop and search of a bus was racially motivated. On October 5th, a bus with students and staff from Shaw University in Raleigh was stopped for swerving and was then searched
Shaw is an HBCU , their President Paulette Dillard claimed it was a case of racially profiling. Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said at a press conference Monday that those accusations are completely false.
Sheriff Wright said, the bus did not have the University's name or logo on it and had tinted windows, so there was no way officers could see who was inside.
Wright said, a K-9 unit was brought in, as part of a highway drug sweep operation, but no drugs were found in the search. He closed by saying " This case right here has absolutely nothing to do with racism"
