Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that an Upstate teenager was sentenced Monday to 25 years in prison in connection to a 2019 fatal shooting.
19-year-old Da’Coreian Gossett pled guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter, having admitted to shooting 15-year-old Juan Calderon back in July of 2019.
According to records, Calderon was attempting to buy a cell phone from Gossett’s co-defendant when Gossett shot him. Two of his co-defendants also pled guilty.
One of the co-defendants, Takyus Hawes, was sentenced to 15 years, suspended to 5 years in prison and 5 years of probation for accessory after the fact.
The other co-defendant who pled guilty was George Waters Jr., who was sentenced to 10 years, suspended to time served and 5 years of probation.
Charges remain pending for the final co-defendant, Chizon Richardson.
