Greenville, SC - Vice President Kamala Harris landed at GSP around 11:30AM Monday after a flight from Joint Base Andrews on Air Force Two. The Vice President made a stop at the Phillis Wheatley Community Center in Greenville just after noon.

In her opening remarks, the Vice President thanked Greenville Mayor Knox White for his leadership as well as Congressman Jim Clyburn and the NAACP.

Harris addressed reasons why some had not already gotten the vaccine saying some workers were not paid while getting vaccinated, child care costs while being vaccinated, lack of transportation as well as misinformation regarding the vaccine itself.

The former US Senator from California, then highlighted some of the Biden administration's solutions to those issues. Harris said some pharmacies will be open 24 hours on Fridays in June, employers such as Dollar General and Starbucks are offering paid time off for employees to get vaccinated, YMCA and Kinder Care are offering free child care while parents are vaccinated and Uber and Lyft are giving free rides to and from vaccination sites.

Harris had a message for people who were still uncertain of the vaccine, due to what she called misinformation.  She claimed that a decade of research had gone into the vaccine and said the FDA conducted clinical trails to ensure safety and efficacy.

The Vice President told the crowd the vaccine is safe, it is free and it is effective.  She asked those that had not been vaccinated to do it for your self, for your family and your community.

Harris is also scheduled to visit a pop-up vaccination site at a Greenville YMCA and have a discussion of voting rights with community leaders before returning to Washington DC Monday evening.
