Western Carolina University is under investigation for alleged violations of Title IX. The U.S. Department of Education says Western Carolina refused to comply with Title IX statutes to ensure gender separate intimate spaces on campus.
The Department says it received credible reports that the school allowed a male to room with a female in all-girls dorm. The school also investigated an incident in which a female students asked a biological male to leave the women's locker room.
The Department of Education says in both incidents involved males who identified as transgender women. They also claim that the school retaliated against women who spoke up in those instances.
Officials at Western Carolina have confirmed receiving notice of the investigation and they deny any wrong doing.
