Transgender athletes competing in female sports has been a controversial topic around the country throughout this year. That debate has now come close to home, after an issue with a transgender athlete at a high school in Western North Carolina. Controversy now surrounds the volleyball program at Highlands School in Macon County, which has a transgender athlete competing in girls volleyball. A female athlete from Hiwassee Dam High School, a conference mate with Highlands was injured when the transgender player spike a ball into her face, earlier this season. This comes just after Lia Thomas, a biological male won the NCAA Women's National Title in Swimming. Also, earlier this year President Biden proposed changes to Title IX that would protect the rights of trans-athletes to compete in women sports. Will this be the end of Women's sports?
