After a hotly contested Republican Primary, two candidates will meet in a run-off in the Governor's race. Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette and Attorney General Alan Wilson will face each other in just two weeks.
A runoff was widely expected, with six names on the ballot, though only five candidates remained in the race after Josh Kimbrell dropped out before the primary. Shortly before 9 PM Tuesday, the Associated Press projected Evette and Wilson would advance to the runoff.
Wilson's campaign released a statement saying: "To the conservatives who supported Norman, Reddy, Mace and Kimbrell: Wilson-Reichenbach is your team. I will fight for you and your family. Together, we can bring a new age of conservative leadership to South Carolina."
The unofficial results had Evette with a slight advantage over Wilson, after both garnered more than 25% of the vote in the Primary.
On the Democratic side, Jermaine Johnson won the party's nomination for governor with well over 50% of the vote. He cruised past Billy Webster and Mullins McLeod and 59.1
The runoff for the Republican nomination is June 23rd.
