A Western North Carolina man will spend the next two decades in prison after a fatal shooting in Buncombe County. In November of 2023, 41 year old Jeremy Greer was shot while inside a vehicle at a home in Candler.

He was taken to Mission Hospital where he later died. Greer was at the home of suspect 36 year old, Eric Jaron Wilson when the shooting happened.

Wilson claimed he shot Greer because he thought the victim was reaching inside a backpack for a gun. No weapons were found in Greer's belongings.

After a trial that lasted 8 days, Wilson was convicted of 2nd degree murder. He is expected to serve more than 20 years in prison.
