The Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia is awash with sadness over the passing of their beloved giraffe, Charlie.
The "lettuce lover" served "as a wonderful ambassador for his species," according to a social media post by Zoo staff.
Despite undergoing treatment, Zoo Officials said Charlie had been suffering from ongoing health concerns. He died in late June 2024.
But his legacy lives on. He fathered seven calves, many of whom have gone on to have calves of their own; emphasizing Charlie’s impact on the Species Survival Plans set forth by The Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
