The Oconee County Sheriff's Foundation announced Monday the purchase of 10 life jackets for the Sheriff's Office Marine unit to hand out to promote water safety for kids enjoying water activities around Oconee County.

Sheriff Mike Crenshaw in a media release said “The purchase of the life jackets by the Foundation was made possible with funds from our Sheriff’s Community Resource Fund...” The Sheriff says the fund was started by an anonymous donation made by a couple in Oconee County, so Marine Deputies can provide the free safety device when they see a child without a proper fitting life jacket.

The Sheriff's Office also said Walmart in Seneca also made a donation of several lifejackets for distribution by Marine Deputies on patrol. Sheriff Crenshaw said anyone who would like to make a donation to the Sheriff’s Community Resource Fund to contact Helen Westmoreland with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Foundation at hwestmoreland@oconeelaw.com.
